I have never been a big fan of giving kids spelling test. I find that kids usually memorize the words for the weekly spelling test but don’t spell the words correctly in their daily writing. This year I am giving the old fashioned spelling test another try! Instead of simply memorizing spelling words my students have been learning about prefixes, suffixes, and root words in order spell words correctly. I am pleased to announce that I have my first 100% club members after giving this weeks spelling homework and test.

My eyes have been opened to the power of teaching kids word patterns VS. simply memorizing spelling words. I am hopeful that my 100% club will increase in member size as we continue to explore prefixes and suffixes next week.
